shit i pinned

i need this dress/sheet.

in multiples.

can i just get some sheets and sew some buttons down the front?

and i need this.

obviously.

also..

my butt is getting a makeover.

i'm looking at you day 30 with an epileptic level eye rolling side eye.

and..

i've been stalking bold rugs...not even on purpose.

totally by accident.

i noticed that i was pinning rooms that i thought i was pinning for the room but it was really more about the rugs..

and then this happened...

middle atlas  SOLD

i would turn that into a rug in a heartbeat.

ok then.

see you later.

don't go cliff walking.

no, really....don't.

pictures of stuff

 around here...

fiona hates us.

the side yard got mowed and de-weeded.

this may not look like much to you but to me it is 1/3 of the way towards not being sanford and sons.

crepe myrtle got pruned.

seriously this would all be much more interesting if i was smart enough to remember things like before shots.

my hostas are doing awesome.

i planted succulents around a tree stump.

you know what succulents like?

tree stumps.

frecklemore.

while it rained fiona built the "cat bay hotel".

the area under the laundry baskets was the yoga room.

when it's rainy our room is awesome.

dark and moody and super cocooning.

(the blinds are on their way out making way for romans...and a short and tightly tufted headboard will be joining them soon)

bedding:

skirt- anthropologie

quilt- dream quilt (color no longer available)

sheets- coyuchi organic jersey (amazing)

shams- 'fiona' from biscuit

today is our 13 year wedding anniversary.

i am celebrating by getting shanked in the vagina.

happy anniversary AND pap smear day!

this is pretty cool maybe

have you heard?

it's from the folks at OKL.

it's like craigslist a little bit only with a OKL format.

you can buy or sell.

here's what they say:

sounds pretty cool, right?

although that percentage is kinda high..and there's the issue of shipping it yourself if you go the DIY route.

hmm..and then you re-list?

is that geometric art thing for sale?

cuz it's cool.

that's cool too.

but bitches better answer.

unless you go the DIY route?

this is giving me diarrhea hunter's alley.

yeah yeah..

but why do my eyes keep throwing shade involuntarily to the right?

isn't this EXACTLY like one king's lane? aren't people going to charge exorbitant amounts just to cover that damn percentage fee?

am i being too conspiratory?

is this a good thing?

is conspiratory a word?

i guess if you've got goods to sell and they are going to be wasted on the craigslist yokels (me) who want to pay $75 tops for that antique chinese cabinet then hunter's alley is your place.

thoughts?

go here for singing up.

and if you missed out on any paintings lately i will be selling some more over the weekend.

i can't believe it's friday.

this week flew by.

oops hey hi.

sorry for no post yesterday.

and this one is lame..

but..

get this book.

even though you've seen her house a million times this book will surely make you take the plunge and paint a room black, sludgey brown or down pipe gray.

it's certainly reinforced my decision to paint my living room black.

in fact this book solidified a lot of decorating decisions around here.

stay tuned.

noteworthy things..

i can't stop thinking about this sofa from environment..

only not so much the army green (hello giant booger)

instead the black army-

it also comes in denim..

i am on the fence about the denim.

it's like tom selleck is sitting in your den with a frisbee and an idea.

truthfully i think both the denim and army could work in the right environment.

but not mine.

it's all pointless bc i am certain this sofa is well out of my price range.

but there is an environment store here in atlanta and i aim to go sit on it. maybe i'll drop a deuce on it and offer to just take it off their hands.

also have you seen domaine?

i think it's new.

is it?

lots of eye candy and good writing.

check out the snakeskin lamp tutorial and then go slap your mom.

and finally..

who's seen it?

well i have.

 it's not easy to watch.

more not easy to watch if you have children i suspect.

at least for me.

i had to stop it after the first 20 minutes.

i grabbed the remote quicker than i have anything in my life to shut it down and then threw it across the room.

however, 10 minutes later i went right back in like a rubber necker and watched the whole thing.

it's totally compelling and if you can get past the inital shock and horror of it it's well worth watching.

naomi watts was staggeringly good.

she says so very little and yet conveys everything.

the tsunami of 2004 happend 6 days before fiona was born.

and i think to protect myself in some way i ignored (as best i could) the reality of it all.

so in a way for me i was kind of seeing and understanding it all for the first time.

i recommend.

ok then.

color is my muse

that might be the douchiest thing i've ever said (there are so many moments to choose from)..

but if we are speaking in truths, and we always are around here...it is absolutely the truth and how i approach painting.

i am not a schooled artist so i go with my gut at all times.

sometimes my gut is very wrong and colorblind, but most of the time it's on point.

so as i lay in my bed this morning asking myself what in the ding dong i was going to blog to you all about today i thought all about the colors in my head these days and where they come from.

and a little of how i build on them, what paints i use and how i apply them.

lately i have been obsessed with sennelier soft pastel chalk.

the colors are so highly pigmented and i dream about layering them over paint.

for the paint i use mostly acrylic but some oil and a lot of oil pastels..

i use several brands of acrylic and gouache paint.

gouache paint is really really pretty and runny and expensive.

acrylic comes at many price points.

and i use all of them.

all in all paint is expensive.

i tend to use brushes very little these days and instead i apply the paint with an artist's palette knife and i use a shit load of paper towels to spread the paint around and even as a "brush" sometimes.

i will dab the paper towel in the color and smear it on the canvas or paper.

it's not very conventional but there is a connection for me between hand + paper towel + surface that a brush prohibits.

i.e. i seem to have more control.

there are certain types of paintings i do that are all brush.

like this:

the princess and the witch- SOLD

but for my paper pieces i use a brush very little.

color inspiration comes from this magical place called...pinterest.

here's a sampling of some recent paintings and some images that may have inspired them..

somewhere in iowa - SOLD

incense

saffron road - SOLD

all in all color has a LOT to do with it.

i liked doing this post.

did you like it?

i think i'll do more of these.

what do you think?

poop pee.
