travelogue- thursday (probably) (i hope you like pictures)

so far i love:

english butter

english weather

the yorkshire accent (i have been practicing for this coming season of downton)

english roses.  i get it now. i REALLY get it.

and ENGLISH BUTTERRRRR.

i do not love:

the north yorkshire terrible-larious sunset (10 PM!) and sunrise (5 AM!)

it is not awesome.

i hatelove:

the bats screeching from 9 to 10 pm every night.

i mean it's cool and something i would never hear or see in my own hood but i can see how after living here a while you would want to murder you some bats.

they dive in next to your windows as the sun sets and it's kind of awesome.

they are wee and adorable.

here's what we've been up to the last 3 days..

the day before yesterday we explored our beloved harrogate:

this is what i wore..

(and yes, i chose the spikes. and yes i love it.)

grocery shopping has proved to be highly entertaining for me.

treacly is maybe one of the best words ever.

do they know me?!?!

didn't go in.  but i will.

oh..but i will.

this is what jet lag looks like.

this is what the english call bacon.

it is not bacon.

but it is delicious.

we pass this building on our walk into town every day and it's my favorite.

i believe it's just 2 flats.

and i believe it is really really expensive.

also on this path..

the most insanely huge roses with the most insanely rosey smell.

the smell is intense but soft.

it's not pure rose...it's rose mixed with vanilla.

not joking.

there is a playground nearby that is perfect for fiona when she is tired of playing tourist (which is every few minutes).

purple door that i like.

fiona made a sweet friend.

yesterday we went to a town nearby via train called knaresborough..

it was market day there..

this awesome dog was there too.

she was so nice and soft.

the town of knaresborough is ridiculously picturesque.

we visited a forrest and caves.

this cool ass gypsy caravan was sitting in the middle of the forrest.

1975 michael caine lives here.

so does 1975 mick jagger.

plenty of amazing houses nestled in among the hills.

you walk up many steep steps to get to the castle.

but you stop 100 times to take pictures.

i spared you 98 of them.

up at the top there are ravens.

this is a 14th century castle once inhabited by kings and queens and it was BADASS!!!!!

a real life dungeon y'all.

fiona LOVED it.

she loved the authenticity of it all.

i did too.

my first ever castle.

we ended the day at the fat badger for delicious food and wine..

lots of wine.

travelogue- monday (maybe?) july 15th.

hi ho americans.

i'm a right proper brit now (said the douchiest american of them all).

i figured i'd post every 2 days or so rather than dump a dookie load of pictures into one giant post.

how dreadful would that be?

very.

that said...enjoy this dookie load of pictures!

there were airport shenanigans.

we landed...

i was like whaaa?

and fiona was like whaaa??

sleeping on the plane is futile.

even after xanax and vodka.

have you ever tried to sleep with a 45 lb human draped over you with periodic kicks to your boobs?

while sitting straight up?

waiting on luggage.

overall the flight, luggage retrieval, car rental and journey to end destination was seemless and easy.

we were very lucky.

you know how those things can be the worst and ruin everything.

fiona at our door.

our flat is called 'studley'.

obvs.

the roses here are amazing.

they smell like roses jacked up on rose juice.

harrogate is very flowery.

english street signs are so..english?

there are fantastic shops here.

more on that in a few days.

betty's tea room is a total destination.

for you can get the most delicious (and adorable) marzipan and sponge things.

our flat view at night.

a drive through the yorkshire dales yielded these views.

our first day trip was to bolton abbey.

an 800+ year old priory and abbey in the town of bolton.

kind of amazing...

plus sheep and cows just hanging out is pretty much my favorite thing ever.

hi sleepy sheeps.

i love you.

there is a stream/pond that is cold and deep.

and there were lots and lots of pasty, half naked white people.

a picnic was in order.

think sandwiches, salami, english mustard, crisps and chocolate.

old as balls.

this dead person has been dead for a long time.

the writing is so old it's olde.

the house on the grounds was once owned by the duke and duchess of devonshire.

so the gardens as you can imagine were spectacular.

i think now it belongs to some trustees or something.

insanely beautiful.

tiny door.

appropriate pose.

more pasty white people.

yorkshire ice cream will blow your face off.

fiona and her nana.

hot husband and his beer.

also curtains.

our flat.

don't be jealous of it's 1940's cum 90's decor.

english tv is the weirdest.

i mean it's right up there with japan.

ok then.

today we shop.

would it be weird if i buy some farrow and ball paint here and have it shipped to my house?

would i save any amount of money?

see you later.

july 12th

i didn't sleep last night very much and i won't bore you with the complainy details, but suffice it to say i am super tired today and stressed and anxious and sad and excited and terrified and really just too much to put together any kind of blog post that makes any kind of sense because hwu.,.ruqjjj:":""":s;oieupqiewr.

so instead-  flula.

i can't stop and i won't stop.

do yourself a favor and watch as many of his videos as you can.

you won't be sorry.

make sure you follow me on instagram so you can see what i'm up to in the UK.

see you on the flerp.

kitchen of the day (and a question)

not a kitchen...

but probably part of one.

and i can't stop staring at it.

all those matte black soup turines.

and the row of tagine lids (?) just below..

who is this person and why won't they share those things with me?

that basket of candles is charming my pants off.

i leave for england tomorrow night.

i'm mostly ready to go.

as ready as you can be when you are a crazy perfectionist with anxiety issues.

but i'm trying to remember this is supposed to be fun and not stressful even when it's TOTALLY STRESSFUL.

(taking suggestions on how to actually achieve that)

so i have a question for my english readers or those in the know about such things..

we will be in harrogate...a spa town in north yorkshire.

there are a few grocery store/supermarkets available to us and i wanted to know the best one(s) to get things that are organic/gluten free + coconut milk + agave nectar and the like..

i realize the UK is not in the stone ages and that more than likely that stuff is available somewhere.

but even here in the US there are only a handful of stores that carry such things.

so..

here are the stores i have to choose from:

sainsbury's

tesco

waitrose

marks and spencer

tell me what you know my hookers.
