friday things
i am dead dead dead sasha bikoff. i think this stairwell/entrance hall for the kips bay designer showhouse is incredibly inspired and brilliant. i would be so happy to see this every day. unless i was hung. it opens may 1. if you're in new york PLEASE go for those of us that can't.
in other news...
this clothing line looks like a great place to get every item of clothing you'd ever need to put on. i want all of it. minimal basics that aren't.... basic.
i'm not much of a fruit dessert girl but these pineapple coconut bars look rull good.
but so does this GF paleo keto cookie pie for one. decisions.
if these are going for $650 a pop i am seriously considering grabbing a bunch of thrifted jeans/camo pants and putting my spin on them for all of us to enjoy. for less than $650. who's in?
i made this salmon rice bowl and everyone loved it. i used grouper. all the salmon was farm raised (color added - gag) and i just refuse.
need a laugh?
have a glorious weekend.
traditional and yet...
your mom
mother's day is a day that goes largely unnoticed around here. once i think i got a book. and there was a brunch one time. or was it a dinner? mike has forced fiona to make a card. i think it said meow with a picture of a cat.
so don't mind me....i'm just gonna drop this here on the off chance someone with a (mostly) deep wallet is reading...
i really like this off shoulder prada sweater. it could be dressy with a skirt or worn over a t shirt for a casual, i'm cooler than you look.
really really want to get into the cbd game. i need a good muscle cream for all of my workout soreness. perhaps a bath salt too? and a tincture for chill vibes. maybe a vape-y thing? discuss.
i want to try all of miranda kerr's organic beauty line. i'd like to start with this roll on eye oil.
i've not stopped wanting this eyeshadow palette since i fist saw it. i think i've included it in several shopping posts. i've also seen it in person and rubbed the colors on the back of my hand. they are as good as it gets.
doesn't everyone want the vintner's daughter active botanical serum? it has stellar reviews. thousands of them. i'll take the giant one. but there is also a smaller version. but isn't mom worth the large?
i've wanted a piece by shanna van maurik for a while. i love her brain. top of list is one of her portraits. i think a bunch of postcard sized prints would make a great gift. i'd hang them en masse over some cool, dark wallpaper.
love these re-worked vintage tea cups with beverage of choice motifs. there are so many to choose from. i'm tequila all day.
a set of 6 heirloom tomato plants from white flower farm would make a super gift for mom.
and i lose sleep over these shoes. they are so delicate and sexy.
kitchen of the day (with caveats)
you might remember this kitchen from my post several days ago featuring the home of the people behind house of hackney.
i didn't realize the kitchen was by devol kitchens. my absolute favorite kitchen people.
you can see all their kitchen work here.
something about this kitchen feels almost dated, maybe it's the color palette? (i'm a child of the 80's and so i am naturally supposed to have an aversion to dark green and dark wood.) but there are all the details that keep it fresh. the floors, the smeg, the wallpaper, the soft furnishings, the lighting.
i might be the minority here but i'm not really a houseplant person. i don't know...they always look fake to me. and i loathe skylights. for many reasons but mainly because they are impossible to clean. or maybe just mine are. there's a dead bee sandwiched between the glass on one of my skylights in the bathroom. i have no idea how it got there and it's been there for over 2 years. and it will stay there until it turns to dust which, in case you were wondering is at least over 2 years. also: spiderwebs, spider droppings and really fucking dirty glass.
here's the thing...the majority of people who are lucky enough to renovate a kitchen are choosing the same thing- white upper cabinets, brass, a wall of raw wood open shelving, usually a contrasting dark island (possibly black, possibly navy, possibly gray, sometimes green, maybe dark wood) and white and gray marble countertops if they can swing it and if they can't they'll go for something that looks exactly like it.
ok, i say majority but the reality is most people can't afford to renovate their kitchens and are living with whatever was there before them and/or don't give a shit.
point is...i LIKE that this kitchen is a bit polarizing. you're either going to love it (maybe with a few personal tweaks) or hate it (burn it to the ground but save the stove).
unlike the ubiquitous white/brass/wood/subway-with-dark grout kitchens that i think will feel dated sooner than later this one is quirky and personal and i think that will carry it farther.
your thoughts?
but like seriously though i think i'd just move the plants to the porch and be 100% fucking satisfied with everything else. ok maybe, 95% satisfied. skylights *shudder*.
friday things
i've seen bits of beychella but i need to see more. yet every link anyone has sent me tells me it's been removed. i get it. tidal (the subscription service that hoards all of beyonce's music and videos) snatched that shit like a bad weave off the internet. so....if anyone has a link send it to your girl.
this trench coat is very good. i have never owned a trench coat in my life. i don't know why....maybe because it goes from freezing to hot here pretty quick and there's just no need for it? they can really pull together an outfit though don't you think?
this roasted beet salad is on my lunch, party of one list.
a spring storm home safety checklist seems right. we have a really really really large oak tree in our back yard that hovers over our house rather forebodingly. over the years the ivy has gotten out of control covering the tree and is almost to the top of the biggest part of the trunk....before the trunk breaks off into branches.......is this bad?
this little oyster bar in new orleans made me really want to open a small restaurant. the decor is perfect but it's the size here that i'm really after. needless to say my next trip to new orleans i'm staying at the ace and spending every evening here.
i've created a spring shopping board so that when i need to shop everything is all in one place. and i can see it all together as if it were my closet.
hope you have a great weekend and your weather is spectacular.
