get on me: birkenstocks (2 ways)

 are you down with birkenstocks?

are you stumped as to how to wear them without looking like a dirty hippie?

i think the key is to wear them in a non-obvious way.

like so...

classic preppy with a little edge?

yes!

and..

clean hippie with a modern silhouette?

yes again.

classic prep | shirt | baguette stud earrings | classic retro sunnies | leather satchel | leather kilt |

| birkenstocks | jezebel nail lacquer | boyfriend watch |

modern hippie | hat | sweater with tie back | black honey lip gloss | petra nail lacquer |

| white skinny jeans | birkenstocks | tumbled leather shopper | goldfinger ring |

i love mine!

don't judge my naked toes. i am letting my toenails breathe.

superfast collaboration

my good friend bailey designer/owner of biscuit and blogger at peppermint bliss asked me to paint something for one of her clients' bedroom.
the issue was i didn't have a whole lot of time to do it.
like a few days.
plus get it shipped to texas.
what?
i am obviously a little crazy so i said yes.
i figured she was having to design and decorate and entire house in that time i could at least paint a small pretty for a wall.
so i did.
and here it is...

this bedroom and the whole fantastic house that bailey decorated is in the new issue of rue.

she showed me a pic of the room and said work off the colors in the biscuit "jenny" print pillowcases if you please.

i think it came out perfect!

close but not exact.

here it is up close:

and here is another favorite shot from bailey's client's house..

solid.

i LOVE this room.

it's decorated and sexy but not overly decorated and filled to the brim with stuff.

hi 5 for not killing the sofa with pillows.

she can take a fabric that i would ordinarily be like...maybe not bailey and make me go..FUCK YES BAILEY!!

go check out the whole issue.

it's good.

28 day face yoga challenge..let's do it!

according to weirdos and hippies (me) face yoga is the best thing you can do for the face ruiners..i.e. wrinkles, jowls and sags.

creams and potions are like bandaids.

face yoga is like exercise.

everyone has their genetic predispositions.

me?

i'm a sagger.

not a wrinkler.

in fact, at 43 i have nary a wrinkle.

but my face is sagging like a wet diaper.

so in my search for face yoga i found this crazy asian lady.

crazy awesome!

 here is day 1:

see?  it couldn't be any easier to do. in fact the hardest part is remembering to do it.

and trying not to do an impression of her for the rest of the day.  (i am getting good)

and though she doesn't really tell you how often to do the exercises she mentions it a little on day 4 or 5.

i think the formula is to do each exercise 3 x's a day or more...throughout the day or as often as you rememeber.

i guess the more the merrier.

i am doing mine in the morning, in the car (and taking pictures of myself),

in the shower and yesterday, in the dark, scaring the shit out of mike (see day 5).

here is the page for all 28 days.

are you gonna do it?

if i can get you guys to suck oil through your teeth and swirl it around your mouth for 20 minutes surely i can get you to make funny faces.

motherfucking autumn!!

it's here!

officially.

get out your cotes du rhone and your plum mascara and celebrate the season shitheads!

her name is natalie joos and she's an ex model, belgian born...a model casting agent and RIDICULOUSLY fashiony and cool.

and the best part?

she's not 25.

i don't even think she's 35!

in fact i think she might be 45!

i actually have no idea how old she is but i think she's at least my age.

her cool factor is off the charts.

i mean, green socks with pumps?  YES! i so would.

if helen mirren and gwyneth paltrow had a baby it would be natalie joos.

her blog is here.

have a great weekend.

make this pizza.

thursday things i did and stuff on a thursday

i made this pizza from scratch and you can too.

i use this dough recipe.

i make my own sauce which couldn't be easier and it's the best in the world.

1 14.5 or 14 oz can whole peeled tomatoes.

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes

1 tbsp. dried oregano

3 large garlic cloves, crushed with the back of a knife and then smashed around a little.

put the evoo in a sauce pan and set it to a gentle heat.

add the garlic, oregano and chili flakes.

sautee for a minute and a half.  or until things start to smell like fucking dominos.

add the whole tomatoes to the pot.

bring to a boil and then reduce heat and simmer without breaking the tomatoes apart for about 50 minutes.

after 50 minutes (you could go longer, it will only get yummier) add 1 tbsp of balsamic vinegar and 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp salt.

throw the entire contents of the pot into a food processor or blender (i use the former) and blend until completely smooth like pizza sauce.

taste for seasoning and try not to drink it.

throw it on top of a damn pizza and then add whatever toppings you want.

i used leftover short ribs we had the night before.

i caramelized an onion.

sauteed a zucchini.

sliced a tomato from the garden and sliced a fresh jalapeno.

chopped up some parsley.

put all that delicious shit on there and then topped it with cheese.

i use buffalo mozzarella bc it doesn't fuck with my intestines the way cows milk cheese does.

and it's stupid delicious.

this type of dinner is perfect for using the contents of your vegetable drawer and last night's meatloaf.  i am 100% behind a meatloaf pizza.
